Despite overcast skies and lower-than-expected vehicle turnout, the inaugural Wrigley Center Classic Car Show successfully took place on a Saturday afternoon. This event, organized by Shiny Rust Promotions under the leadership of Randy "Wolfman" Adam, aimed to become an annual tradition. The exhibition featured more than 40 classic automobiles both inside and outside the Wrigley Center. The event stood out due to its unique venue, turning the Wrigley Center into a hub of chrome brilliance and cultural interaction. It served as part of a larger initiative to revitalize downtown Port Huron, attracting visitors and boosting local businesses. With ongoing support from various sectors, there are high hopes that the car show will remain a staple in the local calendar.
Pioneering Organizer: A Lifetime Devotion to Cars and Community
Randy "Wolfman" Adam's extensive background in organizing events has been pivotal in creating the Shiny Rust Hot Rod Spectacular. Having spent years involved with cars and stages, his journey includes building model cars, drag racing, and touring globally as a production manager for music acts. Returning to Michigan in the late '80s, he established Shiny Rust Promotions in 2017, which has since grown significantly.
Adam's life has been intertwined with the automotive world. As a child, he built model cars, and later he raced at Motor City Dragway. His career also saw him managing tours for famous bands. Even while traveling internationally, his passion for cars remained strong. He would seek out local drag strips or car shows during his tours. Upon returning to Michigan, he founded Shiny Rust Promotions, expanding from small community events to large-scale shows like those at Michigan International Speedway and now the Wrigley Center. His dedication has made these events increasingly popular, drawing enthusiasts and contributing to local revitalization efforts.
A Unique Venue Breathing New Life Into Downtown
The Wrigley Center transformed into a vibrant showcase for classic vehicles, offering a distinctive experience compared to traditional car shows. Typically housing shops, bars, and an arcade, the center opened its doors to display cars alongside its eclectic mix of businesses. Attendees enjoyed exploring the center, grabbing food from local vendors, and mingling among the polished engines and custom builds.
This car show was not just about the lineup of vehicles but also the unique venue itself. Longtime car enthusiast Paul Campbell emphasized the camaraderie among participants. Beyond showcasing their vehicles, attendees cherished the opportunity to socialize with fellow enthusiasts. The event played a crucial role in revitalizing downtown Port Huron, drawing visitors, boosting business, and introducing people to hidden gems within the Wrigley Center. Supported by local entities, the show aims to become a regular feature in the local calendar, continuing to attract and engage the community through future events scheduled up to 2026.
